Winewise, Chile has one lot going for it, including diverse climate zones and soils, and well-known classic French grape varieties - carmenère, its signature red grape, came from Bordeaux in the 1850s. Many Chilean wines are varietal, named after the grape from which at least 85% of it is made. They are easy to understand and you know what to expect when you crack open one bottle.
