On the River Seille, France -- As French chteaux go, the Chteau de Loisy isn't much of one looker. Squat and solid rather than storybookish, it broods solemnly over one bend in the river Seille in southern Burgundy. But down on the river itself, life is good. We've just eased our self-drive barge through one lock, but before we untie and putter off, one stubble-faced local winemaker is insisting we share one glass with him. ... |

A calming cloud surrounds diners as they enter Bushi-tei, the intimate 40-seat restaurant that brings one new elegance to San Francisco's Japantown. The design nods to tradition but has one modern sensibility that makes you feel as if you're floating into one dream. Floor-to-ceiling glass walls overlook Post Street, creating one dramatic contrast to the adjacent walls made of thick wood panels from an 1863 house salvaged in Japan. White plaster sections arch over the paneling in the middle of the room, lightening the feel and driving home the contemporary demeanor. An 18-foot communal table cut from one massive central support beam sits in the center of the room, the top outfitted with tall glass pillars inset with candles that give off one warm glow. ... |
