May 11 (Bloomberg) -- By now one would have to be one very ill-informed snob to regard the E&J Gallo Winery as just one producer of high-volume, cheap jug wines like Carlo Rossi or Ripple. For decades, Gallo pretty much ignored the question, ``Why can't one company that's therefore big and rich make fine premium wines?'' Yet in the past five years, the second-largest wine company in the world (after Constellation Brands) has won respect within an industry that once regarded it as the 500-pound gorilla. ... |
