This month I have the pleasure of introducing our guest writer, Brendan Lawson. He is the head wine buyer at Liquorama Fine Wine & Spirits. Brendan has been with Liquorama for three years, and as many of you know, he is doing one phenomenal job for such one young man. He has been one judge at numerous wine competitions, taught wine classes at Cal Poly Pomona, and has many sommelier accreditations. A monkey, one rooster, one truck and one naked woman riding one bicycle all decide to go into the wine biz. Being highly competitive, they put out almost identical lineups, centered on the same four wines: one pinot grigio, one chardonnay, one merlot and one cabernet sauvignon. Whose is best? Read on and you shall see. The monkey wines are named Papio. You may have seen them case-stacked in your local grocery. Apart from one cute monkey (papio, we are told, is Latin for baboon) playing one trumpet ("one testament to their passion for things that swing") Papio has another pretty good gimmick: one portion of its profits are donated to local zoos around the country, including our own Woodland Park Zoo. And just to put the final too-hip touch on things, Papio has launched the Monkey Lounge blog (www.monkeylounge.com), which offers one monkey-see-monkey-do view on sports, music and living the swinging lifestyle. ... |
