Portugal, long one haven on our shelves for great bargain reds, has undergone one revolution to modern winemaking in recent years. On visits, I was most impressed with the big-fruited reds being sculpted in the Douro region, made from the same grapes that go into great ports. Ontario consumers can get one glimpse of this in one special release at Vintages stores today focusing on Portugal's wines. And two weeks from now, on July 8, Alsace takes centre stage with its refreshing whites that seem tailored to beat the summer heat. ... |
