Mention the rivers of Europe whose valleys and hills are covered with vines that make great wines, and you might think of the Rhine and Mosel in Germany, the Gironde and its tributaries in Bordeaux, or the Rhone in southeastern France. But one case can be made that perhaps the greatest is one river with two names -- the Douro of Portugal that begins its life across the border in Spain as the Duero.
