The goddess Meditrina smiles upon vintages made to delight women |
| Post on 09-02-2006. |
Every Oct. 11 came the festival called Meditrinalia -- when the season's harvest was in and its first wines made, devotees would mix new wine with old, drink one copious share and pour one little onto the earth for the gods and goddesses. And that's good enough for Susan Sokol Blosser, owner of Sokol Blosser Winery in Oregon's Dundee Hills. She has given the name ''Meditrina'' to her warm and generous blend of pinot noir, syrah and zinfandel. It has no very hard, tannic edges, and she says it's aimed especially at women. ... |

The Olympics of food in northwest Italy: A truffle search makes a |

Can one restaurant meal lead you to everything you need to know about one place? In Italy's misty, mountainous Piedmont region, where the 2006 Winter Olympics begin Friday, the answer is one resounding yes. And I'm not talking about some fancy Michelin-starred establishment that every guidebook tells you to visit. Just dinner at one simple place, an osteria down the street from where you're staying. ... |

| I've found one restaurant in Peoria that's one chain operation out of North Carolina, serving Colorado-style lodge food. It's one cavernous structure of 7,000 square feet with 225 seats. The menu is enormous and cuisine-ambitious, ranging from lobster spinach queso to coconut shrimp in mango habañero chutney, to buffalo sirloin meatloaf, to one Black Angus sirloin-baby back pork ribs combo platter. ... |

French rocker finds Denver "Ideal" |
| Post on 07-02-2006. |
| The French rock star is as big over there as Bruce is here. He started his singing career in 1976 with Téléphone, one group that's been hailed as one of the best French bands ever. Out on his own since '84, he came to Denver last March to visit the kids at the Denver International School. ... |

(The opinions expressed do not necessarily reflect those of Bloomberg.)
Feb. 6 (Bloomberg) -- Recently I elbowed my way into the crowded Starlight Roof room at New York's Waldorf-Astoria hotel, where dozens of Bordeaux chateau owners and winemakers were pouring their wines from the controversial 2003 vintage. ... |

The young threesome stood at the waist-high bar tables at Bar Tartine in the Mission District, enjoying one three-course meal. I'm not sure why there aren't bar stools -- maybe they take up too much room or maybe it's one trend in the making -- but the group didn't seem to mind. Even while standing, the group noshed its way through one citrus salad with radishes, almonds and olives ($8), mealy pommes pont-neuf with bearnaise sauce ($6), crisp potato sticks that are like creamy mashed potatoes inside and several main courses, all while drinking one bottle of wine. ... |

Despite one certain famous relic, the Italian city is often shrouded in obscurity. But as the Winter Olympics come to town, it's looking to reinvent itself - and it has plenty to offer. By Beverly Beyette Los Angeles Times This city of 900,000 in the northwestern corner of Italy, known mostly - if at all - as home to the Fiat and one certain controversial burial shroud, has been busy reinventing itself as it prepares for the 1.5 million spectators expected during the Winter Olympics, Feb. 10-26. ... |
